How Many Photos Will I Get From My Unposed Family Session in Columbus?

Why Unposed Family Photography Gives You The Best Gallery Surprises

You know those times when your kids are doing something hilariously ridiculous – like running full speed with one sock on and spaghetti sauce on their chin? You think to yourself, “Well, that won’t win any photo awards,” and move on. But guess what? When I show you your gallery later, that’s the photo that makes everyone laugh out loud and that ends up on your holiday card.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve delivered a full documentary family gallery and heard the same refrain:

“Wait… WE got THIS many photos?? Even with all that chaos???”

Yep. Even on the days when your toddler melts down because you handed them the wrong snack cup color, I’m documenting the full story – not just the highlight reel.

So let’s unpack exactly what you’ll get after a photo session with Daisy Zimmer Photography, why quality always beats quantity, and how you’re going to end up with more meaningful moments than you expected… in the best way.

You Deserve More Than a Folder of “Good Enoughs”

I get it – when you’re investing in family photography, it’s totally normal to wonder how many final photos you’ll receive. Maybe you’ve been burned in the past. You booked a session, wrangled the whole crew into decent outfits, and found yourself clicking through 300 near-identical images, unsure which ones to keep.
That’s not how I work.

My approach to unposed family photography in Columbus isn’t about flooding your inbox with files you’ll never organize. It’s about crafting a story you’ll actually want to revisit. A gallery that makes you feel something – not just about how your family looked, but about who you were together in that season.

Take, for example, a Columbus family I photographed during a 2-hour unposed in-home session. Their 3-year-old was having a full-throttle meltdown for about half of it. We’re talking big emotions, crocodile tears, and one impressive pants-less protest.

The parents, understandably, were nervous afterward that they’d only have meltdown photos. But I knew better. They hadn’t noticed the joyful, goofy, heart-melting snapshots I caught in the pauses between the chaos. Because I was there for the full scope of their day, we got the full story – the sweet, the salty, AND the anarchy.

What’s Actually Included in a Session Gallery?

1. Every Photo Tells Part of the Story

Let’s break it down. I typically deliver 30+ signature images per hour of photography coverage. Here’s what that looks like:

1-hour session = ~30 photos
2-hour session = ~75 photos (we usually get more images from the 2nd hour of the session when everyone’s guard is totally down)
4-hour session = ~150+ photos

But here’s what’s not in your gallery:

14 nearly identical shots of someone blinking
6 versions of the same hug
Anything that doesn’t feel intentional and emotionally true

I’m curating your gallery to reflect your real life, not to flood your hard drive.
Think of me as your story editor. If I captured a burst of frames during a moment when your toddler was belly laughing, I select the one photo that reflects that emotion in the most powerful, authentic way. You don’t have to dig through the extras – I already did that for you.

2. Quality over Quantity – Every Time

A higher photo count doesn’t mean better. It means overwhelming.
Your gallery should feel like a bite-sized time capsule. Something you can flip through when the kids are older and remember what this season actually felt like.

I’m thoughtful about how many photos go in because I want you to be able to:
Print them easily (like, without a week-long selection spiral)
Make a photo book of absolute favorites
Frame 2 or 3 images that really speak to who your family is

We all have 15,000 photos on our phones. You don’t need more clutter. You need the right ones.

3. I Capture It All – Not Just the “Smiling” Parts

Worried your house is too messy? Kids might be wild? Toddler might be deep in their “no pants” era?

Bring it on.

Not only do I welcome imperfection – I photograph it. Because I know 10, 20, 50 years from now, you’re not going to want the images where everyone looks like a mannequin. You’re going to want the ones where your kid is belly-down on the kitchen floor, roaring in protest over bedtime.

And spoiler alert: those are often the favorite photos. They’re real. Relatable. Full of personality. That’s the stuff we’ll laugh about later.

So… Why Does This Actually Matter?

Because what we’re documenting isn’t just what your family looks like. It’s how this season feels.

The sheer delight when your toddler runs to show you their belly button
That comforting hand squeeze from your partner during breakfast chaos
The burst of giggles when someone toots at the dinner table (don’t act like you don’t laugh too)

You won’t remember exactly how many photos you got. You’ll remember how the gallery made you feel. That’s my real goal every time I walk into your home with a camera.
