Scioto Grove Metropark in Grove City, Ohio has expansive trails with beautiful blooming bluebells and celandine in mid-to-late April. When the “A” Family and I chatted about what they envisioned for her family session in late April, they wanted to use one of Columbus’s metro parks so their girls would have plenty of space to explore. When I say this family loves the outdoors, I mean it in every sense: they spend 99% of their time in their yard (weather permitting), and they even traveled all the way to Utah for an entire dinosaur-themed trip to dig up real fossils! The girls love anything & everything they can do with their hands, so this was a top priority when I was scouting locations.
We met up at Scioto Grove and walked through the beautiful serene forest to the pebbly creek bed, and the light was just perfect. And best of all, it was quiet.
Knowing what your kiddos love to do is one of the most important details when planning for a photo session. It’s also helpful to know other details like how they do on longer car rides, how quick they are to warm up to new faces & places, and what might overwhelm them. This family traveled quite a ways to meet me here, so both girls fell asleep and really didn’t want to hang out with me when they woke up! It’s understandable! You might think this is guaranteed way to derail a photo session, but thankfully, we planned for this.
We had a nice “buffer” walk through the beautiful blooming forest to get to our session location. We admired the sights, made jokes, and kept the conversation light. This gave everyone time to warm up and get comfortable with me and their new surroundings before adding a camera into the mix. The result was simply beautiful, but more importantly, it was comfortable and fun. These memories are true to this family and what they love.
